The difference between dates right from 9 December 1946 when the First Meeting of the Constituent Assembly was held to 26 November 1949 when the Constitution of India was finally adopted by the Constituent Assembly makes a count equivalent to 2 Years, 11 Months, and 17 Days. 


Dominion of India vs Republic of India


Dominion reads as "autonomous communities within the British Empire", a country that was part of the British Empire but had its own government.


The Dominion of India, was an independent dominion under the monarchy of the British Empire between 15 August 1947 and 26 January 1950. 


Republic reads as a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch.


After the promulgation of the Constitution of India on 26 January 1950, the Dominion of India was transformed into the Republic of India with the complete enforcement of the Constitution of India and end of the British Monarchy.

Following the end of the British Raj, the Viscount Mountbatten of Burma, popularly known as Lord Mountbatten, became the first and the last British Governor-General of Independent India. In June 1948, Chakravarti Rajagopalachari succeeded Lord Mountbatten, and became the first and the last Indian Governor-General of Independent India and served until the Constitution of India was enforced. 


On 26 January, 1950, the Constitution of India came into force and with the abolishment of the title of Governor-General, Dr. Rajendra Prasad took the oath as the first President of Independent India.
