Leadership Style of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel –

Sardar Patel was one of the leading figures of the country during the Indian freedom movement. Besides contributing a lot to the freedom struggle of India, he also served as the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister during the first three years of Indian Independence after 1947.

He was a dignified personality and a unique symbol of integration who truly understood the significance of 'Unity is Strength.'

It is well said about his remarkable contribution that –

There are several examples that describe the leadership style as well as the leadership qualities of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The organization of farmers of Kheda and Bardoli of Gujarat, Participation in Civil Disobedience Movement, Enthusiasm for Self – Rule Governance, National Integration of India, and Democratic framework after Independence are the best examples that well describe his leadership style. He was actively engaged in the integration of our country even during the British rule as well as after the Independence of our country also.

While researching and analyzing the leadership style of Sardar Patel, I found these qualities of him which are mentioned below:

Sardar Patel was one of the most influential leaders during the time of the freedom struggle of India. As mentioned earlier, he also served as the first Home Minister of India where he organized relief efforts for refugees during the partition and worked to restore peace. He led the task of forging a United India successfully.

After doing a lot of research about the leadership style of Sardar Patel, I came to know that the leadership style of Sardar Patel was mostly Democratic by nature. The definition of Democratic Style of Leadership states that –

“The democratic leadership style consists of the leader sharing the decision-making abilities with group members by promoting the interests of the group members and by practicing social equality.”

The points included in the above-mentioned definition are present in the leadership style of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Therefore, we can conclude that his leadership style was democratic.
He would always be remembered as the founding father of the Republic of India. His leadership style is an inspiration for all of us.
